TASD&CASD Volunteer Project Topic 1 Wii Remote

體感輸入器材開發:

Wii Remote Development Project:

Background Information:

Through the Wii remote control, blue tooth connection and the appropriate software like Glove PIE program and WiinRemote program. The Wii remote can become a wireless mouse. Through the Glove PIE program, we can design some specific application through the Wii remote control. Here are some details about the related topics.

Now, we can adapt the Wii remote to replace the wireless mouse function on the computer. We would like to further explore the potential of writing some program, which can be applied through the remote.

If any volunteers have experience and interested in participateing that project, please let me know by reply me through e-mail or by the blog message.

Here are some related inforamtion.

Thank you very mcuh !

  1. Frank is really so great! You really did a good job on searching the programming resource.

My gut feeling is PIE may create a lot of question marks for this projects.
Instead, I would like to use some more common software tools such as Visual C++ or Visual Basic which is commonly used for windows programming.

So I vote for your first link (http://onakasuita.org/wii/index-e.html). I have also found another library at
    http://www.codeproject.com/KB/DLL/WiiMP.aspx.

And did you have any ideas about the applications? So that the participants can prioritize the task for research.

Actually I am a hardware and software guy. If it doesn't need too much hardware support in this project, I can help to study on the software.

  2. But, if we use the Wii control as a simple mouse. GlovePIE may be a quick solution. Because it seems GlovePIE seems easy to use but difficult to make something complicate.
I think we can copy the source in this site to convert it as a mouse.

  3. Hi Frank and Jackie, I am interested in joining the project too. I agree with Jackie that we may first decide what kind of applications we should focus on and then we can start our next steps.

  4. Technical sharing:

Hi! Life is not always that smooth. I have tried to connect my Wiimote to my computer via a Bluetooth USB adapter. This Bluetooth driver can actually support Wiimote. I can see Nintendo XXX in the search result. But I can't connect with GlovePIE and other sample code using Visual C# adn C++.
It seems the PID(product ID) and VID(Vendor ID) can't be found in registry after detection. I also found lots of people in Microsoft MSDN have also got this problem. It may take some time to study about this.

  5. After today's meeting, I can successfully connect the Wiimote as mouse via GlovePIE.

I have two Bluetooth transceiver. But only 1 of them can work. Another was failure. It's lucky that the workable one is a very cheap $20 bug from Golden Computer Center.

    Here are the steps.

    1.
    (i)Google search "Toshiba Bluetooth stack"
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/Bluetooth/?page=download
(ii) Download PC Bluetooth Stack "BT-stack.zip"
    (iii) Run the setup
(iv) In the "Installing Bluetooth driver...", it will request to plug in a bluetooth device and press ok.
[Internal Bluetooth seems unable to be detected]
    (v) Installation of driver finished.

    2. Control Panel -> Bluetooth Local COM -> Add -> There are Toshiba BT Port (COM6, 7, 15~22)

    3. I try to run
Program files->Toshiba->Bluetooth->Add New Device->press connection key of Bluetooth->But "register" action is failed.
After reboot, and repeat the above steps, I get connection successfully and the Wiimote keep flashing its "4 blue LED at the bottom"

    4. Extract GlovePIE029.zip
    Run GlovePIE.exe
    Open "WiimoteScripts\WiiMouse 0.1.PIE"
    Then use it as mouse
